Ointment spreads just as easily on your clothes as it does on your skin, and since it’s an oil based stain, it’s important to act quickly on ointment stains to avoid any permanent damage. To remove ointment stains, it’s best to use a washing detergent, like Ariel, containing solvents like ethanol to remove oily stains, just make sure that the stain is completely gone after washing before putting the item in the dryer since the heat may set the stain into the fibres of the fabric. Follow our Ariel stain solutions tips and tricks for optimal ointment stain removal in the wash.
Removing ointment stains
1
Remove excess
Get rid of any excess ointment stains from the garment with a spoon before rinsing the fabric inside out with warm, running water.
2
Pre-treat
Pour Ariel Original Washing Liquid from either the bottle or the cap directly onto the ointment stain, enough to completely cover it.
3
Load
Without rinsing off the liquid detergent, place the garment into the wash along with similar items. Leaving the washing detergent on the stain will give your wash that extra boost of cleaning power.
4
Dose
You can also use the pre-treat cap to ensure you use the right amount of washing detergent. Just fill it with the correct dose of liquid detergent and place it directly into the drum of your washing machine, on top of your dirty laundry.
5
Wash
Wash on the usual cycle, on the hottest wash temperature indicated by the instructions on the garment’s fabric care label.
6
Unload
When the cycle is complete, unload the garments immediately.
